Psychology BA Program Overview

NEC’s Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology faculty are passionate about issues like human development, motivation, relationships, and mental health. They’ll provide you with numerous opportunities for growth and a better understanding of yourself and others in our nurturing environment. Challenged, encouraged, and supported, you can become self-directed, and able to analyze and solve problems.

The Psychology BA program is designed to help you go to graduate school; achieve your goals to work in the field of human services; or become a better salesperson, communicator, or employer. This program provides students with a strong foundational overview of the various disciplines within the practice of psychology and is the only undergraduate program in New Hampshire that fulfills the core competencies required to work in the field at the bachelor’s level.

Students in NEC’s BA in Psychology program can do the following:

• Engage in genuine psychology applications via service projects, internships, and visits to local agencies and direct service providers
• Work directly with psychology practitioners in the field
• Learn how to conduct research and generate original findings
• Understand how to use science to explain human behavior and attitudes
• Develop observational and reasoning skills to provide sound answers to observed behaviors
• Help host campus-wide educational and community events

Earning a Psychology degree can prepare individuals to pursue careers in various industries because human behavior informs all professional areas. Graduates can work in counseling, criminal justice, social work, law, education, business, medicine, and direct service of individuals.

91¹û¶³´«Ã½ Students and Faculty Present Research at the 2025 NH-INBRE and NH-LIFT Annual Meetings

Over the last 15 years, the college has received $4 million in NH-INBRE and NH-LIFT grants to support faculty and student research in the natural and social sciences.

Four faculty and 13 students from 91¹û¶³´«Ã½ (NEC) presented research at the 2025 New Hampshire IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (NH-INBRE) Annual Meeting and the NH-LIFT Annual Meeting, both held at the Omni Mount Washington Resort in August.

Hidden Gem: NEC’s Summer Undergraduate Research Program

For more than a decade, NEC’s Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) has been quietly helping students embark on their science and healthcare careers. Each summer, students do real research and present their work at the NH-INBRE Conference.
